Academy Group - "Wheel Of Life"

The Academy Group believes in the importance of "balanced lives" as much as is possible.

Rating Ourselves - We should all assess our present situation regarding several areas of our lives, then attempt to do a "rating" from 1 to 10. This gives us a baseline from which we can measure our progress. Selecting randomly...

1) Physical Health - Give yourself a rating from 1 to 10 on your physical health and fitness. 1 is that you are seriously ill. For a rating of 10 you would have to be free of any illness or disease and in superb physical condition with abundant energy and at your ideal weight.

2) Emotional / Mental Health - How much are you in control of the way you feel? Is your day dominated by worry and anxiety or are you an optimistic person who is able to meet most of life’s challenges with a positive attitude? Negative feelings of anxiety, worry, anger, guilt, etc. rob many people of vitality. Rate yourself on this on the same 1 to 10 scale.

3) Family Life and Relationships - Family in this section is whatever it means to you. It may mean your relationship with your spouse and children, your family of origin and/or all those who are close to you in some way. Family life may be a bedrock of support and reassurance, a comfort in times of trouble or on the other hand, it may be a source of conflict stress and strife. Rate yourself on this on the same 1 to 10 scale.

4) Career / Business / Profession - How satisfied are you with your career or your profession? Is what you’re doing rewarding and fulfilling? Have you made the advancement that you desire? Rate yourself on this on the same 1 to 10 scale.

5) Social / Cultural - How is your social life? What about friendships? Are you enriching your life with music, dance or other cultural activities? Rate yourself from 1 to 10.

6) Community / Recreation / Fun - Are you having fun in your life? Do you laugh and relax. After all they say that laughter is the best medicine. All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy and so on.

7) Financial - In this area it is not so much about 'how much' money you actually have, but rather how you 'relate' to money. Do you worry yourself sick about it - does it seem to cause stress in your life - are you at ease with it? Does job security worry you? Is the economy hurting you? Do you feel secure about your retiremeny and your financial future? A 10 means that you are absolutely at ease with money and you are able to go with the flow as it passes through your life. If you’re so worried about money and finances that it is absolutely limiting you, this tends to be a 1.

8) Spiritual and Ethical - This section is not specifically about religion. While your spiritual life and ethics and your code of conduct may be informed by a in an organized religion, it does not have to be. As you rate yourself in this area, consider the following:

- Do you have a thought out set of values and moral principles which guide you in your everyday life? Are you clear about the standards that you expect for yourself when it comes to your relationship to your family, to the wider circle of your community, to humanity as a whole and to a higher power as you understand it?
